Nigel Martin Smith envisioned a band that would target the teen of the country. He wanted an all male vocal group composed of teenagers mainly and was looking for good singers who could dance and sing. During his talent hunt he came across Gary Barlow, whose abilities as a singer and song writer impressed Nigel so much that he felt that the band should be centered around Gary Barlow. In other words, the face of the band would be Barlow.
As Nigel went on auditioning more musicians he found Howard Donald, the oldest applicant perhaps. Through Howard Donald's recommendation, Jason Orange was auditioned and chosen. Robbie Williams and Mark Owen were both selected through auditioning and interviewing. So, through a careful selection process, Nigel Smith came up with a perfect combination, that as the world found out later, went on to produce numerous hit albums.
This talented group was named Take That and since its first step in the music industry has been entertaining the fans and critics alike. 'Kick It' was what Nigel, the band manager, wanted the name of the band to be. The members however, wanted Take That. Barlow later admitted it was perhaps the worst name they had shortlisted, but as Nigel Smith said "Once you're famous it doesn't matter what you're called" and that is exactly the case here.
Take That made its first TV appearance in 1990 on the show The Hitman and Her and performed Barlow's material. They made a second appearance on the show later as well. In the early days, the band created mainstream pop music with the mix of urban soul and R&B. Their rise to fame was not effortless. They toured across the UK going from school to school, taking on clubs and other events on the way for months at a stretch.
Take That got what they were aiming for shortly afterward. Their cover of It Only Takes A Minute peaked at number seven on UK Singles Chart. The success wasn't just luck as the band was super talented. The next two singles A Million Love Songs and I Found Heaven again reached number seven. The cover of Could It Be Magic was what turned things around completely. The song peaked at number three in UK and by now everyone knew them. Making use of this fame they came out with Take That and Party in 1991, their first album. After that it was just one hit after the other as Take That ruled the charts for the next decade with their soulful ballads and catchy pop tunes.
Early 1990's were commercially heaven for them. Their Greatest Hits album and Everything Changeswere the two most successful albums of the whole decade. They won several BRIT Awards. In 1995, Robbie Williams parted ways with the band while the rest went on to complete the world tour that was underway. With the end of the tour, the band split up, in 1996. They released one single before doing so.
In 2006, ten years later, Take That re-united after shooting for a documentary. The Ultimate Tour followed the reunion and soon afterwards they told the press that they were going to record new songs. This was a treat for all the fans. The albums Beautiful World and The Circus followed and their success reached new heights. The figure of albums sold rose to over forty million worldwide.
In 2010, Take That surprised the fans once again. Williams was back in for the sixth album Progress and the album sold faster than their any other album. Their tours sold out fastest in their entire history. They quickly broke several records, became best selling artists of all times according to Amazon and won the award for Best British Group.
The release of Progress was followed by Kidz which also did very well on the charts. The icing on the cake came when they released an EP Progressed. It brought them back into the charts.
Take That have had seven number one albums, they have had 11 number one singles and about 27 top 40 singles. They are undeniably one of the best musicians that history has seen especially in the past two decades. They are out on a tour and are performing tracks of the EP. The reunited Take That are not something anyone would want to miss. Get Cheap Take That Tickets 2011 online from our website. As mentioned earlier, they set records selling their tours out.
