Details of Ndambi and the Ticket Luck value
The city of Dallas has given contemporary RnB a new voice, the voice of Ndambi! Ndambi, just like her name, is a beautiful young singer and song writer. She has been in the professional music scene since 1995 and has released four studio albums. She has been in the music scene long enough to create her own distinct place. She has a strong voice that sets her apart from her contemporaries.
She started singing at a very early age, both of her parents were actually Baptist ministers and thus she has always been a gospel singer. Her real name is actually Chonita Nicole Gillespie and she chose Ndambi as her stage name. Ndambi is originally an African name pretty common in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Angola. The name means most beautiful and thus suits well with a person like her.
She was born in 1969 and studied English in Southern Methodist University. She was trying to make her name as a short story writer when she entered into the music industry. Initially in 1995 she used to sing as a backup singer for Erykah Badu. Erykah Badu and Ndambi were really good friends and she did the background vocals for her Babuism and Live albums. She also tried her luck in modeling and did a shoot for fashion photographer Marc Baptiste.
She was born in the times when the Hippie disco culture was in rage. Her early training in music though came through the gospel music and her early life inspirations like Loretta Lynn, Johnny Cash and Tammy Wynette. She also learnt to play instruments like the Piano and clarinet but singing remains to be her first love. Her early songs show a strong refection of her pop inspirations.
Her solo debut album has been Little Lost Girl Blues and it hit the market in September 1999. She released the album independently and it primarily became famous from word of mouth. The album managed to sell around 70,000 units worldwide. The album focused on soul and jazz music and was recorded in Dallas. The album carried self narrative songs like Picture This, Deep Rain, What's Wrong With You, The Meeting, See Ya In My Dreams, Soul From The Abyss, The Sunshine, Can This Be Love, I Think For Sure, Broke My Heart, Crazy World and Lonely Woman.
Ndambi is known for her story telling skills and powerful vocals. Her second album is Tunin Up & Cosignin which came into the market two after the release of her first album. Cheeky I productions released this soul album for her. The album was a two DVD pack which carried live recordings from her last album and some new songs like Daydreamer, Call Me, People, See U In My Dreams, Bitter Bitter Blue, I Think 4 Sure, What's Wrong With U, Soul From The Abyss, Picture This/Can This Be Love, Sunshine and Ode2Nina.
In 2005 came her third album titled as A Weird Kind Of Wonderful, the album was released only in Japan. The records got sold out so fast that it became a collector's item with people making a lot of money on eBay for reselling this record. The songs of the album carried her signature soul singing mixed with an Afro music touch in it. Her songs like Young Lady, Can't Change Me, Hey U, Insecurity, Soft And Wet, Get On Up, Hot Oven, Pointy Toe, If We Were Alone, Love, Time Passes By and Preacher Preacher reflect her growth as a woman.
Ndambi is now back in the market with her latest album called "Pink Elephant". The album is a Stax record release; it carries the same emotional purposefulness and rare honesty that she is known for. The album has been recorded in Santa Monica and according to Ndambi it has a modern sheer along with a hint of Classic RnB in it. Her songs are a pleasant reminder of former legends of RnB and soul music like Slave, Heatwave, Michael Jackson, Betty Davis, Isaac Hayes, Smokey Robinson, and The Sylvers. Her songs tell stories of different people like "Nobody Jones" is a story of a girl who has come to a big city with high hopes and dreams. Her other song L.I.E, tells the tale of a man living two lives and Delusion of Love is a school love story gone all wrong. The rest of the songs also have wonderful surprises put across with a rich tone.
