Details of Dolly Parton and the Ticket Luck value
Dolly Parton is undisputedly the Queen of American country music, who is equally loved and admired all over the world. Born Dolly Rebecca Parton, she is a successful businesswoman, philanthropist, actress, multi-instrumentalist, author, songwriter and a record producer. Nominated 45 times for Grammy Awards, she won eight of them. She is also the recipient of three American Music Awards, two Oscar Awards and a Tony Award. Parton has also received the very prestigious Kennedy Center Honors, for her tremendous contributions to the world of art. This honor is bestowed only to a few every year by the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
Born in Tennessee, she herself admits belonging to a dirt poor family. As it is usually with every small American town, the centre of all social activity was the local church. Parton, too, as a child sang regularly in her church choir. Her early childhood experience of being from humble roots and a small time later reflected in her songwriting. Even as a child she was extremely ambitious and wanted to make a name for herself in the world of entertainment. She was only nine when she started to appear regularly on local television and radio programs. When she turned thirteen she visited the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tennessee. If Nashville is the heart of country music than the Opry is that one venue that makes it beat. The Opry is essentially a weekly country music stage concert. At the Opry she ran into one of the legends of country music, Johnny Cash, who encouraged her to pursue a career in country music. The day she graduated from high school, she left for Nashville.
However Dolly Parton's career had to go through initial phases of hark work with not much appreciation and monetary compensation. Her initial job in Nashville was of a songwriter, rather than a singer. During this time she wrote songs for Hank Williams Jr., Skeeter Davis and Bill Phillips. Her early success as a singer came with songs like "Happy, Happy Birthday Baby", "Something Fishy", "Dumb Blonde" and "Put It Off Until Tomorrow". But it was not till 1967 when she would get the national fame.
In 1967, Dolly Parton became a regular on Porter Wagoner, a country entertainer's television show The Porter Wagoner Show. Wagoner-Parton would go on to sing many chartbusting country music songs for years. Parton however started her own solo career and with songs like "Mule Skinner Blues", "Coat of Many Colors", "Joshua" and many more, she was accepted by the American people as solo country music artist. With the release of her song "Jolene" in 1973, she had cemented her position in the world of country music. "Jolene" also made her famous in UK, as it reached position no.7 on the UK charts. After securing the position of Princess of American country music, Parton decided to move into the more mainstream music; pop.
In 1977 she produced New Harvest First Gathering. The album marked a shift in her emphasis from country to pop. Singles like "Higher and Higher" and "My Girl" had elements of R&B and pop in them, which were appreciated by her fans and critics alike. Her next album, Here You Come Again, was also released in 1977 and did extremely well commercially. It also topped pop and country music charts. Dolly Parton also won a Grammy for this album.
Despite enjoying huge success as a pop artist, Parton had always felt home with country music. For this reason she went back to her roots and released White Limozeen, in 1989. "Yellow Roses" and "Why'd You Come in Here Lookin' Like That", two songs from this album topped the country music charts. So whether it is country music that you love or pop music is your thing, Parton is your sure bet. She is the Queen of both pop and country music and now this Queen comes to a town near you.
