Chester plays host to several repertory theaters, electrifying concerts and flamboyant festivals. The City has a brass band known as the City of Chester Band. Earlier it was known as the Blue Coat Band and formed in 1853. It is a thriving 3rd section brass band. All members of the band wear a blue-jacketed uniform with an image of the Eastgate clock on the breast pocket.

In 2007, Chester"s cultural sector would undergo through a major transformation. The Odeon Cinema and the Gateway Theatre had closed as part of the Development. The city also has some nightclubs, which are soon going to be added to the development. Also to the east side, are the UK"s largest zoological gardens named Chester Zoo.

Chester"s wonderful shopping environment is enjoyed by both out-of-towners and the lucky locals. Chester is recently ranked best city in England to visit. Also in a survey of English Towns and cities, it was declared the tenth most profitable city.

Chester offers an impressive international commercial centre, comprising such high street favorites as Marks & Spencer and Next. These are specialist shops in Godstall Lane, Rufus Court, and St Michael"s Arcade, and department stores, such as the renowned Browns of Chester.

Chester is also close to other major out of town retailing complexes such as Cheshire Oaks, designer outlet village, based in Ellesmere Port. The Broughton Shopping Park, in Flintshire North Wales, features a variety of shops and restaurants. The city has unique character in its two-tiered gallery of shops called "The Rows".

The Rows are traditional black and white buildings which have been restored and re-developed to provide easy access to Chester"s main shopping streets. Come and feel the majestic scale of Chester making it truly a marvelous Spectacle!
